'During the advance made by the Battalion in the vicinity of LAGNICOURET, 25th/28th March, 1917, this man displayed courageous devotion to duty. At times communication was most difficult, but McLEOD was tireless and came and went through machine gun and artillery fire, by day and by night with magnificent coolness. So frequently did he make the journey that at last the Commanding Officer insisted him remaining for a rest at Headquarters. It was largely owing to his courage and faithfulness that Headquarters was enabled to keep so closely in touch with the situation on the right flank and so direct operations in that quarter as to achieve eventually a fine ..........., a machine and search light being captured in the position gained on that flank. Runner McLEOD has been consistently useful for many months, his services during this operations were of the greatest value to the Battalion.'

Bar to Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on the outskirts of PERONNE and the village of FLAMICOURT, by 58th Battalion on 2nd September 1918. The company was held up by heavy machine gun fire Private McLEOD immediately went forward and engaged machine gun posts with his Lewis gun, killing 5 of the crew and capturing the gun. Later in the attack the Company was again held up by Machine gun fire and Private McLEOD brought effective fire to bear on the posts and enabled the crew and gun to be captured. Right throughout the attack the effective fire from this man's gun silenced many machine guns on the flanks and greatly aided the Company in obtaining its final objectives. His determination and offensive spirit could not have been greater and his fine example of courage and devotion to duty inspired all those working with him. This man holds the decoration of M.M.'
