Found guilty, 23 March 1916, of being absent without leave, 1500-2100, 23 March: awarded 12 days' Field Punishment No 2 and forfeiture of 1 day's pay; total forfeiture: 12 days' pay. Taken on strength, 31st Bn, 25 May 1916. Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 16 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 23 June 1916. Wounded in action, 19 July 1916, and admitted to 1st Casualty Clearing Station, 20 July 1916 (gun shot wound,face, slight); transferred to 13th General Hospital, Boulogne, 29 July 1916; to England, and admitted to Military Hospital, Edmonton Road, 22 July 1916; transferred to County of London War Hospital, Epsom, Surrey, 21 August 1916. Discharged from hospital (date not recorded) and marched in to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 5 October 1916. Granted furlough, 6 October 1916; reported back from furlough, 21 October 1916.
