Military Medal

'For conspicuous courage and devotion to duty near BONY from 29th September to 2nd October 1918. On one occasion whilst on patrol under heavy machine gun fire, he carried a message across the open from an advanced Post to Company Headquarters. During the whole of the Operations, he displayed great courage and initiative in working forward, often in very difficult circumstances, and gained information which was invaluable and enabled his Company to overcome the resistance of machine gun posts which were holding up the advance.'
