War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front

Proceeded to join Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 12 April 1915. Wounded in action, 2 May 1915 (gun shot wound, left shoulder); transferred to England and admitted to 2nd Western General Hospital, Manchester, 20 May 1915 (wound slight). Returned in No 4 Draft to unit, departing A&NZ Base, Weymouth, 2 September 1915; rejoined unit, Mudros, 18 September 1916. Disembarked Alexandria, 30 December 1915 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Transferred to and taken on strength of 4th Machine Gun Company, 9 March 1916.

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 1 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 9 June 1916.

Wounded in action, 8 August 1916 (gun shot wound, right shoulder and buttock); died of wounds at 13th Australian Field Ambulance, 9 August 1916.
