'During the attack, on the 11th August 1918, near Framerville, east of Amiens, he led his men to their objective with great gallantry and skill in the face of heavy fire from numerous machine guns, and it was due to his splendid example that the line rushed forward without the slightest hesitation at any moment. He personally captured a heavy machine gun and several prisoners.'
