Military Medal 'This man showed great courage and devotion to duty while acting as a stretcher bearer working from an R.A.P. near the north east corner of POLYGON WOOD on 26th September, 1917. He had several times to pass through a heavy enemy barrage and was twice knocked down by shell explosion. He however carried on in a manner beyond praise and showed a fine example to his fellow bearers.'
