On the night 17th/18th September, 1918, and throughout operations on 18th September, 1918 at JEANCOURT these linesmen [McNAMARA, 8831 E.L. BROWN and 4064 A.A. LOCKHART] maintained continuous communication from right group Headquarters, both to the front, flanks and rear under constant shell fire. These linesmen spent the whole of 20 hours continually on the lines and by their devotion to duty communications were uninterrupted throughout the whole of the operation.'
