War service: Western Front Embarked Brisbane, 21 October 1916; went absent without leave, Cape Town, South Africa, 28 November 1916; re-embarked Cape town, 5 December 1916; disembarked England, 10 January 1917. Found guilty,17 March 1917, of (1) Insolence to an Officer; (2) being absent without leave, 22-27March 1917: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2. Proceeded overseas to France, 3 May 1917; taken on strength, 15th Bn, in the field, 8 May 1917. Admitted to hospital, 6 June 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 31 July 1917. On leave to United Kingdom, 14 February 1918; absent without leave, 2 March 1918. Court of Inquiry, in the field, 22 June 1918, found McNAUGHAN 'illegally absented himself without leave on 2/3/18 upon expiration of leave to the United Kingdom, and that he is still absent'. Discharged, 1 April 1920, on account of being an illegal absentee. Forfeited eligibility for war medals. |
