Military Medal 'On the morning of 5th October, 1918, during the opertions near MONTBREHAIN, east of PERONNE, this N.C.O. fought his way forward with great gallantry. He and another N.C.O. went through the village alone, firing at the retreating enemy as they advanced. When the objective was reached he gathered his section together and established a strong Sniper's post. He then patrolled the front and the flanks and obtained communication with the neighbouring posts although the ground was continually swept by machine gun fire. Later in the day when the enemy, having reorganised, were attempting to counter attack, Corporal McNEILLY broke up their formation completely with the skilfully organised fire from his post. He personally accounted for seven or eight of the enemy.'
