Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He has consistently proved himself a cool, fearless leader of men. On 8 August 1918, in the vicinity of Aecroch Wood, when the platoon commander was wounded, he immediately assumed command, and, correctly appreciating the situation led his men into position on a threatened flank. In recent operations he organized carrying parties for rations and ammunition, displaying organizing ability of a very high order, and assisting his company commander in a most able manner.'
