Disembarked from 'Themistocles' at Suez, 28 February 1916; taken on strength of 57th Bn, Ferry Post, 1 April 1916.

Embarked Alexandria on HT 'Transylvania' and proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force, 17 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 23 June 1916.

Admitted to 14th Australian Field Ambulance, 20 August 1916; discharged to duty, 27 August 1916.

Found guilty, 21 September 1916, of being absent without leave, 8.00 am, 19 September, to 8.00 pm, 19 September 1916: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2; forfeited total of 1 day's pay.

Admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 12 October 1916 (myalgia); to Ambulance Train, 13 October 1916, and admitted to 14th General Hospital, Wimereux. Embarked Boulogne on HS 'St. Andrew' and proceeded to England, 15 October 1916; admitted to Frensham Hill Military Hospital, 15 October 1916; discharged on furlough, 1 November 1916. Marched into No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 16 November 1916.

Admitted to 2nd Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 7 December 1916 (rheumatism); discharged on furlough, 20 December 1916. Marched into No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 5 January 1917.
