Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as railhead ordnance officer. Under a heavy bombardment he collected a fatigue party which had scattered and by his personal example and energy off-loaded a train of special shell that was standing in the siding under fire. He thereby overted what might easily have been a very serious explosion, and throughout the whole of the operations his services have been invaluable as regards to the handling and despatch of very large quantities of ammunition to gun positions.'
