Military Medal

'On the 26th August, 1918, at SUZANNE Ridge, this man displayed great gallantry in the assault on the enemy's trench and later during the route of the enemy. He was the first man to enter the trench and used his bombs and rifle to good advantage until the No. 1 of his gun team got into action. Under continuous and deliberate fire, he continued to fight the enemy and beat him back down the trench. Quickly, though yard by yard, the trench was won in this part. When the supply of Lewis gun ammunition failed, from clips of cartridges from wounded men he succeeded in loading three magazines. He was instrumental in the capture of a machine gun one member of which he captured and one he killed.'
