Military Medal 'Displayed splendid courage and devotion to duty during the attack near ZONEBEKE on 26th September, 1917. His Platoon Commander was wounded early in the attack and this N.C.O. took the Platoon in hand and showed great leadership and initiative throughout, always cool and untiring in his work he greatly impressed all his men. He also did excellent work in the consolidation. By close personal reconnaissance he made the very best use of ground and had his section of the line extremely well organised.'
