Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He assisted the company commanders who were short of officers in organizing the advance. When the attack was checked by machine gun fire he went forward through the fire and pointed out a suitable position for dealing wiht it. In unloading an anti tank gun which had been captured, the charge exploded, injuring his hand, but he refused to leave until the next morning, continuing to supervise the supply of ammunition. His endurance and determination inspired those with him'
