Military Medal 'At WESTHOEK on the night of 4th/5th November, 1917, the ridge was heavily shelled and the pack animals had to be moved at a fast trot through the shelled area. Driver METCALF, hearing groans, stopped his horse, and after a search found a driver with his leg broken pinned under a dead horse. METCALF managed to get him free and with the assistance of Driver ARNOLD, placed him on a pack horse, and although shell fire had not eased off, stuck to his men until handed over to the Dressing Station.'
