Medals |
Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations near LE VERQUIRE on the 18th September, 1918. Owing to the strength of enemy counter attack on the outpost defended by Private A.MIDDLETON and small party they were forced to retire up the trench. Under a determined attack by the party the post was re-established. Private MIDDLETON volunteered to accompany an Officer in order to drive the enemy still further down the trench so that the post could be consolidated. Proceeding up the sap he attacked a party of the enemy which he dispersed taking one prisoner. Following on this and under heavy artillery fire, Private MIDDLETON rendered invaluable service as a runner taking messages of importance to his Company Commander who was thus able to keep in touch with the movements. He worked incessantly, was of great assistance to his Company Commander, and set a fine example of determination and courage.'
