Military Medal 'At POLYGON WOOD, from 23/9/17 to 27/9/17 during the our of the 58th Battalion in the line, Private Milburn was on duty as a company runner night and day. On September 25th during a hostile counter attack, this man carried messages to Battalion Headquarters and back under very heavy shell fire and sniping, When the two remaining runners became casualties he volunteered to carry on their work and continued to carry on his work quickly and successfully. He was blown up on several occasions but his spirit was undaunted. Although exhausted he gamely stuck to his work and was invaluable to his Company and Battalion. Throughout his great courage and undauntable spirit was no mean factor in contributing to the successful operation of the Battalion. His devotion to duty set a splendid example to his comrades.'
