Embarked from Melbourne, 7 September 1916; disembarked Plymouth, 29 October 1916.

Declared to be an illegal absentee by General Court of Inquiry, Codford, 17 March 1917. Apprehended in civilian clothes, 13 September 1917. Tried by District Court Martial, Codford, 16 November 1917. Found guilty of desertion; senteced to 2 years' imprisonment with hard labour; 6 months of sentence remitted, 20 November 1917; total forfeiture of pay: 815 days. Transferred to HM Prison, Wandsworth, London.

Marched in to 12th Training Bn, Codford, 11 April 1918.

Tried by the civil power at Central Police Court, London, on a charge of bigamy, 23 April 1918. Found guilty; sentenced to 8 days' imprisonment.

Proceeded overseas to France, 27 May 1918; taken on strength, 14th Bn, 7 June 1918.

Taken on strength, Australian Section, 3rd Echelon, Rouen, 1 November 1918. Transferred to England: disembarked Southampton, 19 December 1918, for duty at Administrative Headquarters.

Proceeded overseas to France; appointed Temporary Sergeant at Australian Section, 3rd Echelon, Rouen, 5 March 1919. Appointed Temporary Staff Sergeant, 1 April 1919. Detached to AIF Headquarters, London, 22 July 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Aeneas', 22 November 1919; disembarked Sydney, 2 February 19120; discharged, 15 March 1920.

Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal
