Transferred to 20th Bn, 15 September 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 16 September 1916. Served in France and Belgium (Ypres). Admitted to Casualty Clearing Station, 24 November 1916 (trench feet); transferred to HS 'Asturias', 26 November 1916, for evacuation to England. Admitted to Beaufort War Hospital, Bristol; subsequently transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford. Discharged to Worgret Camp, Wareham, Dorset, 4 January 1917; transferred to Fovant Camp, Salisbury, 23 June 1917. Volunteered for and accepted as stretcher bearer, 20th Bn. Proceeded overseas to France, 11 October 1917. Wounded in action, 3 October 1918; transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, Kent.
