Embarked Brisbane, 4 May 1916; disembarked Egypt, 15 June 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 2 August 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France (date not recorded). Taken on strength, 26th Bn, 17 December 1916.

Wounded in action, 22 March 1917 (shrapnel wound, nose and head), and admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance; transferred same day to Divisional Rest Station; discharged to duty, 30 March 1917; rejoined Bn, 1 April 1917.

Detached to Divisional Bomb School, 9 July 1917.

Appointed Lance Corporal, 26 June 1917. Rejoined unit from detachment, 15 July 1917. Promoted corporal, Belgium, 10 November 1917.
