Military Cross 'He displayed great gallantry in the fighting before Lihons, on 10th-12th August 1918, and in the defence of Crepey Wood. When the company on his flank withdrew and most of his men had become casualties, he ery skilfully extricated the remainder and reinforced a neighbouring post, which was in serious difficulties. It was largely due to his action that the position was saved.'
