Embarked Fremantle, 29 January 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 27 March 1917, and marched in to 4th Training Bn, Codford. Taken on strength, Engineers Training Depot, Brighlingsea, 6 June 1917.

Wife wrote to Base Records, 28 October 1917: 'While in England he was transferred as he cannot do the long marches'.

Proceeded overseas to France, 7 December 1917; taken on strength, 6th Field Company Engineers, Belgium, 17 December 1917.

On leave to United Kingdom, 12 November 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 30 November 1918.

Proceeded to England for industrial employment, 12 March 1919.

Granted leave with [pay only for Non-Military Employment, 28 February-28 June 1919: boot trade, J. Busby, 42 Oxford St, High Wycombe. Report dated 31 July 1919 reported 'Satisfactory in every way'.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Karmala', 1 July 1919; disembarked Fremantle, 10 August 1919; discharged, 15 September 1919.
