Military Medal 'During the operations near BELLICOURT between 30th September and 2nd October 1918, Lance Corporal MITCHELL displayed conspicuous courage and devotion to duty in his capacity as a Stretcher Bearer. On his own initiative he established an Aid Post in an old German sap and here for 48 hours he laboured unceasingly attending to the wounded under heavy fire, several times crossing the open to carry them to a place of safety. His skilful handling of the wounded undoubtedly saved many lives, and his gallant utter disregard of personal safety earned for him the admiration of all ranks of his Company.'
