War service: Western Front Embarked Adelaide, 23 June 1917; disembarked Plymouth, England, 25 August 1917; marched in to 11th Training Bn, Larkhill, 26 August 1917. Transferred to Artillery Details, Heytesbury, 26 October 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 5 December 1917; taken on strength, 3rd Field Artillery Brigade, 12 December 1917. On leave to United Kingdom, 13 November 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 4 December 1918. Found guilty, 11 April 1919, of (1) When on Active Service neglect to the prejudice of good order and Military Discipline in that he did not carry out an order given him by a Senior NCO; (2) When on Active Service absent without leave from 9 am parade, 7 April 1917: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2. Detached to 1st Divisional Ammunition Column, 4 February 1919. Marched out to England, 5 May 1919; disembarked Southampton, 6 May 1919. Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 12 May 1919; discharged to Command Depot, Parkhouse, 14 May 1919; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 3 days. Marched out to No 2 Group, 27 June 1919. Found guilty, 22 July 1919, of being absent without leave, 15-21 July 1919: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2.
