War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranena Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 30 August 1915. Disembarked Alexandria, 27 December 1915 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 30 March 1916. Appointed Lance Corporal, 1 April 1917. Wounded in action, 3 May 1917 (gun shot wound, left thigh), and admitted to 6th Australian Field Ambulance; transferred same day to 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train No 11, 4 May 1917, and admitted to 11th Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 5 May 1917; transferred to England, 18 May 1917, and admitted same day to Northampton War Hospital (wound, slight). Transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 26 September 1917; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 6 November 1917. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Euripides', 30 January1918; disembarked Melbourne, 21 March 1918; discharged (wounded), Melbourne, 18 July 1918.
