Meritorious Service Medal 'R.Q.M.S. MITCHELL, J., firstly as C.Q.M.S. and latterly as R.Q.M.S. has proved himself thoroughly capable, hardworking and conscientious. During the strenuous fighting in August and September his work was particularly valuable. Whatever the conditions he invariably accompanied his rations to their destination and ensured the correct distribution. It was largely owing to his courage and devotion to duty that during the operations near LE VERGUIER on 18th September 1918 and succeeding days, that the supplies were got forward so successfully in spite of the fact that hostile fire at times rendered this exceedingly difficult and dangerous. R.Q.M.S. MITCHELL has served consistently with this Unit throughout the fighting in FRANCE and has at all times proved himself to be brave, reliable and capable.'
