Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He handled his machine guns with the greatest skill and courage under heavy fire, continually exposing himself fearlessly to work his guns to the best advantage, and on one occasion he crossed over the open under heavy machine gun fire to take spare parts to a damaged gun. He set a splendid example to his men.'
