Admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, Serapeum, 10 February 1916 (malaria), and transferred to 1st Australian Stationary Hospital, Ismailia; to Infantry Divisional Hospital, Shoubra, 14 February 1916 (enterica); evacuated to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Heliopolis, 7 March 1916; transferred to Ras el Tin Cionvalescent Depot, 17 March 1916; discharged to duty, 28 April 1916.

Found guilty, 21 March 1916, of being out of bounds without a pass: forfeited 1 day's pay.

Found guilty, 25 (?) May 1916, of (1) When on Active Service being absent without leave from 1400, 24 May, until apprehended by Military Picquet in Alexandria at 2300; (2) being in town of Alexandria without a pass; (3) not being in possession of an identity disc contrary to Garrison Order 77A; (4) breaking Camp when under open arrest: awarded 7 days' confined to camp, and forfeited 1 day's pay under Royal Warrant.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Port Darwin', 11 January 1918 (debility following malaria); discharged (medically unfit), Brisbane, 7 April 1918.
