Embarked Adelaide, 12 August 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 30 September 1916, and marched in to 7th Training Bn, Rollestone.

Admitted to Military Hospital, Fargo, 15 November 1916 (influenza); discharged from hospital, 21 November 1916.

Proceeded overseas to France, 28 December 1916; taken on strength, 27th Bn, in the field, 5 February 1917.

Wounded in action, Belgium, 28 October 1917 (bruised left foot), and admitted same day to 17th Casualty Clearing Station; transferred by Ambulance Train, and admitted to 2nd Canadian Stationary Hospital, Outrean, 29 October 1917; to No 7 Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, 11 November 1917.

Admitted to 25th General Hospital, 12 November 1917 (scabies); transferred to Rest Camp, 25 November 1917; to 2nd Divisional Base Depot, Havre, 4 December 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, Belgium, 11 December 1917.

On leave to England, 19 January 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 5 February 1918.

Admitted to 7th Australian Field Ambulance, 3 May 1918 (scabies); discharged to duty and rejoined Bn, 9 May 1918.

Awarded Military Medal.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 8 August 1918, and remained at duty.

Admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance, 2 September 1918 (accidental injury: sprained left ankle); admitted to 37th Casualty Clearing Station, 2 September 1918, and transferred by Ambulance Train to 10th General Hospital, Rouen, 3 September 1918. Transferred to England, 6 September 1918, and admitted to Beaufort War Hospital, Bristol, 7 September 1918; transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 18 September 1918; discharged on furlough, 21 September 1918, to report to No 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 5 October 1918.
