Meritorious Service Medal 'Gallantry and Devotion to Duty. This N.C.O. took part in the attacks on ZONNEBEKE and BROODSEINDE RIDGE, YPRES on 4th and 9th October, 1917. He was then Company runner and showed great coolness and bravery in conveying messages from the front line to Battalion Headquarters, under exceptionally heavy artillery and machine gun fire. He also repeatedly carried stores and ammunition to different advanced posts, and his utter disregard of all shelling had a marked effect on all whom he came in contact with. This N.C.O. Has done splendid work that at all times during the past six months.'
