Headstone inscription reads: 'Tasmania's Son, May the Lord be with him'. Commemorated on a Memorial Tablet in the Anglican Church of St Alban's, Copenhagen, donated by a British resident in memory of those members of HM Forces who died in that town after having served in the war of 1914-18. Embarked from Hobart, 8 August 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 30 September 1916.

Proceeded overseas to France, 4 December 1916; taken on strength, 12th Bn, 24 December 1916. Found guilty, 13 March 1917, of 'conduct prejudicial of good order and military discipline in that he did wilfully execute an order in a slovenly manner': awarded 10 days' Field Punishment No. 2.

Listed as missing in action, Lagnicourt, 15 April 1917; subsequently confirmed as prisoner of war, interned at Limburg, Germany. After the armistice, was transferred to Denmark and died of influenza on board Transport 'Formosa' in Copenhagen Harbour. Pastor A.N. Norman officiated at his funeral.
