Meritorious Service Medal

'This Non Commissioned Officer has served with this Unit since its formation. Although a Nursing Duties Sergeant he has frequently filled most admirably the position of General Duties Sergeant. Throughout the last operations on the SOMME in particular, his remarkable skill and ability in establishing and conducting Dressing Stations under the most adverse conditions, and frequently under fire have been of the greatest assistance in the treatment and evacuation of wounded. His cheerfulness, coolness and skill have won for him the highest respect of all ranks, while his personal bearing and conduct as an Non Commissioned Officer have been admirable. As a Nursing Duties Sergeant he has at all times displayed the greatest keenness and zeal, and has never spared himself in any way that his patients might be comfortable and thoroughly looked after.'
