Embarked from Alexandria with Bn for Gallipoli, 4 September 1915. Appointed Lance Corporal, 23 September 1915; promoted Temporary Sergeant, 10 December 1915.

Wounded in action, 16 December 1915 (gun shot wound, head), and admitted to 13th Casualty Clearing Station and then transferred to Mudros; transferred to HS 'Devanha', 17 December 1915; transferred by HS 'Dunluce Castle' to Alexandria, 23 December 1915, and admitted to No 2 Auxiliary Hospital, Heliopolis, 24 December 1915 (shell splinters face and eye). Transferred to 2nd Australian General Hospital, 29 January 1916; to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, 25 February 1916; discharged to duty, 11 March 1916.

Admitted to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Ghezireh, 11 March 1916 (influenza); discharged to rejoin yunit, 14 March 1916.

Allotted to 7th Brigade Machine gun Company, 10 May 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 10 May 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 18 May 1916; taken on strength, 7th Machine Gun Company, 11 August 1916.
