Base Records wrote to sister, Mrs J. VENN, 7 October 1920, seeking clarification over which religious emblem [ Cross or Star of David] was 'to be incised on the headstone erected over the late soldier's grave'. Sister replied, from San Francisco, USA, 21 November 1920, saying that she wished 'to have the cross incised on the head stone of my late brothers [sic] grave'.

Originally listed as 'No Known Grave' and commemorated at V.C. Corner (Panel No 8), Australian Cemetery, Fromelles; subsequently (2010) identified, and interred in the Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery, France.
