Military Medal 'For conspicuous courage, initiative and devotion to duty. Near BELLICOURT on 29th September when an enemy Machine gun was inflicting heavy casualties on our men he took a Lewis Gun and at great personal risk worked out to a position from which he could cover an attack by a bombing section. By his action he enabled the trench to be occupied and was undoubtedly the means of saving many casualties. His bravery and disregard of personal safety set a splendid example to all at a most critical period of the advance.'
