'Showed conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty while in action near ZONNEBEKE on 26th September, 1917. This man took charge of a section after his section commander had been wounded and showed great skill and leadership throughout. After the objective was gained and consolidated he did some excellent patrol work and obtained very useful iformation regarding the enemy's dispositions on our front and gave early information of intended enemy counter attacks.'
