Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty in the operations 24th/25th April 1918 at VILLERS-BRETONNEUX. By his good leadership and fearless energy whilst in command of his section, which was composed of new men, he helped materially in the success of his Company in the counter attack, and, whilst the consolidation was in progress, gave great assistance, keeping all those in his vicinity cheery by his own good example, and here again, by his skilful handling of his section, he was the means of preventing casualties from the heavy machine gun fire to which the sector held by his Company was subjected.'
