Military Medal 'On 12th October, 1917, East of YPRES, for conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty in action. The advance of portion of his Company was held up by Machine Gun fire from an enemy pill-box. Single-handed, he attacked the pill-box, threw a bomb into the entrance, and immediately it exploded, he rushed the position capturing the enemy garrison of 15 men. His determined action was the means of enabling the advance to continue.'
