War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Adelaide, 18 November 1915; disembarked Suez, 18 December 1915. Found guilty, 20 December 1915, of (1) being absent from all parades, (2) breaking camp and going to Cairo: forfeited 2 days' pay for being absent, and forfeited 4 days' pay for breaking camp. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 17 June 1916; found guilty, at sea, 21 June 1916, of being late on 1000 hours parade: forfeits 1 day's pay; disembarked Marseilles, France, 23 June 1916. Admitted to No 4 Field Ambulance, then transferred to No 5 Divisional Rest Station, 12 July 1916 (debility); discharged and rejoined 32nd Bn, 13 July 1916. Posted missing, 20 July 1916. Court of Enquiry, held in the field, 12 August 1917, pronounced fate as 'Killed in Action, 20 July 1916'. Statement, Red Cross File No 1830910, 91 Sergeant A. ERRINGTON, A Company, 32nd Bn, 11 December 1916: 'I saw him wounded in the leg in the German third line at Fromelles on July 20. Blood was running out through his puttee. I tried to make him go back, but he refused and went on filling sand bags. He did not answer roll call when we got back, nor did he go through the dressing station.' MBV |
