Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He left the lines with eight men to secure an identification. Observing thirty of the enemy working in a trench he led his men to the flank to secure the greatest fire effect. On a signal the covering party opened fire, while he, with his sergeant, rushed to the nearest of the enemy, seized him alive, and brought him back to the lines.'
