'Displayed great dash and gallantry in advancing to a new position during the recent operations at POLYGON WOOD, when our men were mixed with other battalions and slightly disorganised at the final stage of the assault. he urged men forward, always taking the lead and going along the line keeping control. he assisted in an assault on an enemy strong post where enemy were hidden; afterwards directing the consolidation and despatching parties for ammunition. Right up to the end when he assisted to bring out the last of the relieved men he continued to do good work.'
