Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations on 30th August - 5th September 1918. On the morning of 2nd September 1918 when his platoon was being heavily shelled with gas shells and although suffering from the effects of gas, he set a splendid example to his men by his coolness and utter disregard of personal safety. He displayed great qualities of an Organiser and was the source of cheerfulness at all times to his men.'
