Other details

Pte. Beswick was taken on strength of the 2nd Pioneer Battalion on 24 January 1917. He was admitted to the 42 Stationary Hospital at Amiens on 3 July 1917, suffering "Pyrexia of Unknown Origin" (this could refer to a number of illnesses, characterised by a fever of short duration, and relapses of fever at an indefinite period), and rejoined his unit on 17 July 1917.

On 27 January 1918 he was again admitted to hospital suffering pyrexia, and rejoined his unit on 9 February 1918.

Correspondence in his personal dossier suggests that he was in hospital for shell shock around May 1918.

Although promoted to Lance Sergeant, on 20 July 1918 his record shows that his rank "reverts to Private at own Request".

He was Absent Without Leave from 8:30 am parade on 12 August 1918 until 7pm on 14 August 1918, and forfeited 10 days pay.

He left the theatre of war on 13 April 1919, and returned to Australia per "Castalia", disembarking at Melbourne on 29 May 1919. He was discharged from the AIF at Melbourne as medically unfit on 14 July 1919.
