War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front

. Suffered from gassing while serving in France. Was buried alive with another soldier by an exploding shell and dug out by mates who saw what had happened. They were saved by a pocket of air which formed when their helmets were forced over their faces. Was wounded at Pozieres and invalided to England and then back to Australia
