Military Medal 'From 11th to 14th October, 1917, East of YPRES, this stretcher bearer showed consistent courage and untiring energy in his efforts to evacuate the wounded along the YPRES-PASSCHAENDAELE Railway, which was under very heavy shell fire the whole time. On two occasions he was knocked over by shell explosions, but struggled bravely on again to take his patient to a place of safety. Although working almost waist-deep in mud and almost exhausted, he refused to leave his post until all the wounded had been evacuated.'
