Other details from Roll of Honour Circular | 'He was at the Officers Training School Duntroon, from October to December, 1916. He was at the Southern Command School of Instruction ... Tidworth from February 4th 1918 to March 29th 1918. He was Acting Corporal a few weeks after enlisting at Claremont, Tasmania, and retained that rank prior to joining the Battalion on 30th March 1918. In reference to my sons death Lieutenant Colonel J.E.C. Lord wrote. " he gave promis of making a first class soldier. His Company's Lieutenant informed be he had been notted for early promotion both on account of his promising style and on account of his good record as a temporary NCO prior to goining the Battalion." Lieutenant Cane writes "Your son was the makings of a fine soldier, and no one deplored his death more than myself. He ould have been promoted before long, and feel certain he would not have been contented till he was at least an officer."' (details from mother) |
