Remainded for Field General Court Martial, 11 April 1916, for refusing to obey an order given by his superior officer, 4 April 1916; found guilty by Commanding Officer, 22 April 1916, of disobeying a lawful command given by his superior officer: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2 and forfeits 11 days' pay.

Admitted to No 2 Australian Field Ambulance, 30 June 1916 (shell, left leg); transferred to No 1 Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 2 July 1916 (gunshot wound chest and hand); to Ambulance Train, 3 July 1916; to No 2 Australian General Hospital, Wimereux, 3 July 1916 (gunshot wound left foot); to England, 4 July 1916; to St Michael Annex, Quex Park Hospital, Birchingtom, 5 July 1916 (gunshot wound left foot, slight); to Shorncliffe War Hospital, 31 July 1916; to No 3 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 30 January 1917; to No 1 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 1 March 1917; discharged to furlough, 10 March 1917.

Marched into No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 23 March 1917.

Admitted to Monte Video, Weymouth, 8 April 1917 (gunshot wound left foot).

Commenced return to Australia from Devonport on board HT 'Miltiades', 4 May 1917; disembarked Sydney, 4 July 1917; discharged Sydney (medically unfit), 19 September 1917.
