War service: Western Front Proceeded overseas to France from 3rd Training Bn, Perham Downs, England, 5 September 1916. Taken on strength, 10th Bn, 19 September 1916. Found guilty, while on Active Service, of being absent from his billet at 2030 on 27 November 1916: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No. 2. Wounded in action, 9 April 1917 (bullet wound, left leg); admitted to 6th General Hospital, Rouen, 9 April 1917 transferred to England, 21 April 1917, and admitted to 3rd Southern General Hospital, Oxford, 23 April 1917 (gun shot wound, left leg: severe). Transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, 4 May 1917. Marched in to No. 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 14 May 1917. Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 7 August 1917; discharged, 30 August 1917; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 24 days.
