Military Medal 'Near CLERY-sur-SOMME throughout all the fighting from August 26th to August 31st, 1918, Corporal NEWTON displayed great dash, being always at the head of his rifle section and invariably in close touch with the enemy. It was mainly by his dash and coolness that two lots of German prisoners were captured in the attack on INFERNO Trench. His courage and intrepidity were an invaluable example.'
